Hartmann Valves supplies RWE Gas Storage West with ball valves for the GET H2 Nukleus project

Burgdorf – Hartmann Valves GmbH, a leading manufacturer of ball valves and wellheads, has been awarded the contract to supply approximately 1,400 ball valves for the GET H2 Nukleus project in Gronau-Epe. The client is RWE Gas Storage West GmbH.

The GET H2 Nukleus project is a crucial component of the energy transition and part of the GET H2 initiative, which aims to establish the foundation for a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure, thereby making a significant contribution to a CO2-reduced future.
The projects of the GET H2 initiative range from production to application: innovative technologies for the entire hydrogen value chain are being developed in various projects. This includes the production of green hydrogen using electrolysis, the development of pipeline networks for transport, hydrogen storage, and its application in various sectors such as refineries, the steel industry, and heavy-duty transport.

GET H2 Nukleus: Connection of the Gronau-Epe Cavern Storage Facility

The GET H2 Nukleus project is creating one of the first publicly accessible hydrogen infrastructures from Lingen to Gelsenkirchen. This project also includes the connection of the cavern storage facility in Gronau-Epe. To realize the project, an existing brine-filled cavern of RWE Gas Storage West GmbH is to be converted for hydrogen storage, additional facilities are to be erected at the existing compressor and withdrawal station, and the cavern is to be connected via a field line for storage operation.

For this project, Hartmann Valves is supplying approximately 1,400 ball valves in pressure classes PN 16, PN 100, and PN 250. The ball valves are used in various nominal diameters (DN 25 to DN 300) and were specially designed for the requirements of hydrogen storage.
