With the ramp-up of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU), the first CO2<\/sub> pipeline networks, compression stations, storage facilities, and industrial process chains are emerging across Europe, presenting entirely new requirements for materials, leak-tightness, and the design of metal-seated valves. Hartmann Valves demonstrates how CO\u2082 projects can be realized safely, efficiently, and sustainably based on over 75 years of experience, technical expertise, and proven solutions from high-pressure and energy technology applications. The product portfolio is being strategically expanded to include welded high-integrity shut-off valves and optimized wellheads for CO2<\/sub> transport, CO2<\/sub> storage, and CO2<\/sub> processing. <\/em><\/p>

Safely Storing CO\u2082 \u2013 Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)<\/strong><\/p>

In CCS, CO\u2082 is captured, compressed, transported, and permanently stored underground. The integrity of the entire system\u2014from capture through high-pressure pipelines to the wellhead and into the reservoir\u2014is critical. Hartmann Valves offers project-specific wellheads and metal-seated valves designed for demanding pressure and temperature ranges, ensuring reliable shut-off. <\/p>

“Safety and leak-tightness are our top priorities. Our metal-seated valves are designed for applications under extreme conditions and ensure reliable shut-off, even with supercritical CO\u2082,” explains Werner Hartmann, Managing Director of Hartmann Valves. “We are strategically applying our decades of development and manufacturing experience in high-pressure and specialty valves for hydrocarbons to CO\u2082 storage technologies.” <\/p>

Corrosion-resistant materials such as nickel-based alloys and high-strength steels prevent leaks and material aging. Complemented by precise monitoring, risks and operating costs can be significantly reduced. <\/p>

Utilizing CO\u2082 as a Raw Material \u2013 Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU)<\/strong><\/p>

In addition to safe storage, the utilization of CO\u2082 as a valuable raw material is gaining increasing importance. In processes such as methanol or e-fuel synthesis, urea production, concrete curing, or as a refrigerant (R744) in large heat pumps, CO\u2082 is part of closed process chains with high demands on pressure retention and leak-tightness. Here, Hartmann Valves’ technical experience from high-pressure, gas, and chemical applications comes into play. <\/p>

Hard-coated seating surfaces made of tungsten or chromium carbide, precision-manufactured ball-seat pairs, and robust actuation systems ensure permanently reproducible leak-tightness, even with frequent switching cycles and changing operating conditions, such as extreme pressure fluctuations. “We are consistently applying our expertise in metal-seated valves and high-pressure systems, developed over many years, to the requirements of future CO\u2082 infrastructures.
